Myler Western Bit HBT Shank with Sweet Iron Mullen Triple Barrel Mouthpiece
With three central mullen barrels, this level two bit is a great choice for horses advancing their skills. Featuring Myler's signature sweet iron mouthpiece, this bit has a sweet taste that encourages the horse to salivate.
Level: Two |
Design: The shank consists of a length of metal with two rings and a fixed mouthpiece attachment. The mouthpiece is curved and jointed with three barrels in the center. More tongue relief and center barrels are quite flexible so they allow the horse to elevate its tongue when swallowing. This western bit is a good step up from the snaffle and is a useful bit for horses needing some freedom of the tongue. It also offers the rider a more sensitive feel. |
Function:
- Shanks are used for leverage and, typically, with a curb strap or chain. Depending upon the mouthpiece used, backward and upward pressure on the reins transfers into downward pressure on the poll, pressure on the curb, and forward and downward pressure on the palate. The tops, or purchases are bent away from the horse to prevent discomfort or rubbing.
- Pressure on tongue and corners of the bars.
- Slight collapse on the bars.
- Turns solid when asking for a stop.
- Independent Side Movement
