Myler Western Bit HBT Shank with Mullen Barrel and Low Port
This Stainless Steel HBT Shank with Low Port Mullen Barrel Copper Inlay mouthpiece is made of polished Sweet Iron which naturally oxidizes or rusts. Harmless to horses, it has a sweet taste and promotes salivation. It gives some tongue relief.

| Design: The shank consists of a length of metal with two rings and a fixed mouhtpiece attachment. The mouthpiece is curved with an upward curve and a jointed barrel in the center. |
Function:
- Shanks are used for leverage and, typically, with a curb strap or chain. Depending upon the mouthpiece used, backward and upward pressure on the reins transfers into downward pressure on the poll, pressure on the curb, and forward and downward pressure on the palate. The tops, or purchases are bent away from the horse to prevent discomfort or rubbing.
- The Low Port Mullen Barrel mouthpiece offers a small amount of tongue relief. With rein pressure, the mouthpiece applies pressure on sides of the tongue and puts downward pressure on top of the bars. This bit uses more bar pressure than tongue pressure. It will not completely restrict the tongue. Each side of the mouthpiece moves independently and turns into a solid mouthpiece when asking for a stop.
